the post office
The local post office is a great place to wind away a
couple of hours. It is an ideal place for old people to socialise due to
the fact that there are very few young people who go there.
At
the post office old people can stock up on ink for their fountain pens
along with fancy letter paper and envelopes that only old people seem to
buy.
Why not get there early?
Many old people camp out all night before pension day
so they can be first in the queue when it opens. This is a kickback
from the ration days during and after the war where people used to cue
up for things such as meat, bread, sugar and Birds Custard Powder.
Plenty to do
At the post office there are a wide range of
activities to get involved in such as:
- Queuing up for ages
- Jumping the queue if there are any young people in
front
- Moaning about the young mothers and children
- Moaning to the counter staff about the cost of a
television license
- Asking for official forms that they do not have in
stock
- Buying stamps for everything
- Talking to the counter staff about your life
problems
- Holding up busy people who are trying to renew
their car tax disc
- Posting things that take ages to arrive at their
destination (if they ever do!)
- Buying cheap toys and tacky stocking fillers for
your grandchildren
- Purchasing packs of letter paper and envelopes in
violet colour
- Using old fashioned services such as sending
letters by post
